Nile Project "Rag Recycling" Weavers UnitOn the outskirts of Cairo (Egypt), this settlement located in and around the garbage dump has been transformed through the efforts of a non-profit organization. This site is now a model for the Fair Trade Federation, providing an alternatve learning and earning training center. This center established in 1988 is a social advocacy group offering vocational and literacy classes for girls and women. Today an average of 250 continue to work in this cottage industry weaving Nile handbags and totes. |
